Grotto Gemstones Workshop Tip
Always use suitable water cooling while grinding to help prevent overheating of both the burs and gemstones.
Use light, controlled pressure and allow the diamond abrasive to do the cutting. Progress through the appropriate grit grades to achieve a smoother finish before polishing.
Important: Unlike sintered diamond burs, electroplated burs should not be dressed or sharpened using an aluminium oxide sharpening stone. Doing so can damage or remove the surface-bonded diamond abrasive and shorten the bur's working life.
Clean and dry your burs thoroughly after use.
Safety: Always wear suitable eye protection and use effective dust control. A correctly fitted P2 respirator is recommended where airborne hazardous dust may be present; wet grinding helps reduce dust but does not eliminate all exposure risks. Keep fingers clear of rotating burs and ensure mains-powered tools and electrical connections are protected from water. Follow the manufacturer's operating and electrical safety instructions. Children must be closely supervised, and powered grinding equipment should only be used by suitably trained operators.
