Sintered Diamond Cutting Blades – Double-Sided
Sintered Diamond Cutting Blades – Double-Sided
Precision Cutting & Shaping for Gemstones and Australian Opals
Grotto Gemstones Sintered Diamond Cutting Blades are designed for precision cutting, trimming and shaping gemstones, minerals and other suitable lapidary materials using a compatible rotary-style tool.
Featuring full double-sided diamond grit coverage, these compact cutting blades offer diamond abrasive across both faces, making them useful for detailed gemstone preparation and controlled material removal.
Their compact design makes them particularly suitable for working with smaller gemstones, Australian opal rough and intricate lapidary projects where precision and control are important.
Each cutting blade is individually packaged and supplied with its own 2.35 mm shank mandrel.
Available Sizes
-
22 mm × 0.35 mm – Thin cutting blade for fine, precise cuts and detailed trimming.
-
22 mm × 0.60 mm – Suitable for general gemstone cutting and trimming.
-
26 mm × 0.60 mm – Larger diameter blade for broader cutting applications.
Measurements indicate blade diameter × thickness.

Using Your Sintered Diamond Cutting Blades
1. Select the Appropriate Blade
Choose the blade diameter and thickness according to the material and type of cut required.
2. Secure the Mandrel
Fit the blade securely to its supplied mandrel. Check and tighten the mandrel's retaining screw or fitting before use, and ensure the shank is correctly secured in the rotary tool.
3. Check Operating Speed
Ensure the rotary tool is operating within the blade's specified speed limit. Do not exceed 8,000 RPM.
4. Use Suitable Water Cooling
Where the equipment is designed for wet cutting, use appropriate water cooling to help control heat and suppress hazardous stone dust.
5. Apply Light, Controlled Pressure
Allow the diamond abrasive to perform the cutting action. Avoid forcing, bending or twisting the blade.
6. Work Progressively
Make gradual, controlled cuts, particularly when working with valuable Australian opal rough or delicate gemstone material.
7. Clean After Use
Remove accumulated stone residue, thoroughly dry the blade and mandrel, and store safely.
Grotto Gemstones Workshop Tip
When preparing Australian opal rough, examine the stone carefully before making your first cut.
Identify the opal-bearing areas, natural fractures and surrounding host rock to help determine the most suitable cutting direction.
The thinner 22 mm × 0.35 mm blade may be particularly useful when a narrow cut is required to minimise unnecessary material removal.
Use gentle, controlled cutting passes rather than forcing the blade through the material. Although these blades feature double-sided diamond coverage, avoid excessive sideways pressure.
Important Safety Information
-
Eye Protection: Always wear suitable safety glasses or a face shield.
-
Dust Protection: Use effective dust suppression when cutting gemstones. Silica-containing stone dust can cause serious respiratory illness, including silicosis.
-
Respiratory Protection: Wear appropriate respiratory protection, such as a properly fitted P2 respirator, where required.
-
Mandrel Safety: Always check and tighten the blade's mandrel retaining screw or fitting before use. Ensure the blade is securely mounted and the mandrel is correctly tightened in the rotary tool.
-
Operating Speed: Never exceed the maximum operating speed of 8,000 RPM.
-
Blade Inspection: Check blades for cracks, damage or excessive wear before each use.
-
Cutting Technique: Avoid excessive pressure, twisting, blade binding or sideways force.
-
Tool Compatibility: Use only with rotary tools that securely accept the supplied 2.35 mm mandrel shank.
-
Water Cooling: Use water only with equipment and cooling arrangements designed for wet operation.
-
After Use: Clean and thoroughly dry the blade and mandrel before storage.
